Vic suggested Taiwan’s many beautiful islands, and said that when one is going with a girlfriend, she also wouldn’t want to run away anymore.

Taiwan's idol group F4 visited Korea for the first time together and attended a press conference commemorating being the campaign model for Taiwanese tourism and commented, "Taiwan has a unique charm and scenery that's different from Korea. I hope many will bring back a good impression."

F4 was selected to be the campaign model for Taiwanese tourism in Korea and Japan. The Taiwanese ambassador attended the event while Kangta and the Super Junior members delivered congratulatory messages through a video.

The members of the group F4 who are all separately active as actors and singers got together for the first time in a while to film the commercial. or several years now, die-hard fans of Korean actors, actresses and pop stars have been traveling to Seoul to attend fan meetings and concerts. Hallyu or Korean wave has helped boost Korean tourism, thanks to the popularity of Korean dramas, movies and music around Asia.

Now Taiwan is using the same tactic, hoping the charm and popularity of boy band F4 will entice Korean tourists to visit the island

F4 members Jerry Yan, Vanness Wu, Ken Chu and Vic Chou, who gained popularity among Korean fans with its drama ``Meteor Garden” visited Seoul for the first time on Friday. F4 was appointed by Taiwan Tourism Bureau chief Lai Se Zhen as its ambassadors to promote Taiwan tourism to the rest of Asia.

Taiwan is hoping to increase the number of Korean tourists going to Taiwan, which is estimated at 200,000 annually, while there are some 400,000 Taiwanese tourists going to Korea annually.

To kick off the ``Wish to See You in Taiwan” tourism campaign, F4 announced it is holding a fan meeting in Taipei on April 22. During the press conference, Yan said it has been a long time since F4 reunited as a group, so they are preparing some surprises for their fans during the event.

As part of being tourism ambassadors, Chu said F4 will film a commercial for the Tourism Bureau and start working on a TV drama, which will be shot in tourist spots throughout the country. The drama will be aired in Korea and Japan later this year.

F4 members talked about their favorite places, including food and tourist attractions in Taiwan, which they hoped would be enjoyed by Korean tourists. Wu said Korean tourists should sample the island’s delicious mangoes, while Chu recommended the hotpot shabu-shabu.

Yan said tourists should visit Kaohsiung, a major port city, where he served for 2 years during military service. He added he couldn’t forget the place since it is where his girlfriend broke up with him.

F4 is also currently in negotiations with Korean organizers to hold their first concert in Seoul. Wu said they are eager to meet Korean fans, especially after seeing so many enthusiastic fans welcoming them at the airport.

F4 members also expressed their desire to work with Korean actors and actresses in the future. Wu, who formed a duo with Korean singer Kangta last year, said he would like to do an action movie with Kwon Sang-woo or Ryu Seung-beum, while Yan said he is a fan of the film ``Old Boy” and its star Choi Min-shik. Chou said he would like to work again with Park Eun-hye, who co-starred with him in the drama ``Silence” and So Ji-sop.


Yan, Wu, Chu and Chou gained popularity throughout Asia after starring in the TV drama ``Boys are Prettier than Flowers” and its sequel. F4 has released two albums ``Meteor Rain” and ``Fantasy Forever” and has staged sold-out concerts.

However, in recent years, F4 members have concentrated on solo work such as dramas, movies and albums. F4 members have visited Seoul on separate occasions but never as a group. In November 2004, Chou, Chu and Wu attended the Asia Song Festival, while Yan attended the M-net Music TV festival in December 2004.

Taiwan's hottest boy band, F4, visited Korea last week for the first time to promote their home country as a tourist destination.

Recently appointed as Taiwan's goodwill ambassador by Taiwan's tourism authorities, the quartet includes Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Ken Chu and Vanness Wu. They appear to be excited about their new project: making young Korean fans future travelers to Taiwan.

"I was so deeply impressed by the Korean fans' passionate outpouring of attention for us at the airport, I felt like I was on stage," Wu said in a news conference at a Seoul hotel last Friday. "The Taiwanese are passionate people, just like the Koreans, so I believe they will be good friends with each other," added Wu, who joined with Korean pop superstar Kangta to form the duo Kangta & Vanness to record an album last year.

The band members rose to fame as actors through "Meteor Garden," a Taiwanese teen soap opera based on a Japanese manga "Hana Yori Dango (men are better than flowers)" in 2001. The name of the band, F4, is short for "Flower four," which is the name the four handsome boys went by in the series.

F4 has become a household name in Asia ever since. In the same year, they signed a record deal with Sony and have released two hit albums, "Meteor Rain" and "Fantasy 4ever."

"Taiwan is a beautiful island country," said Yan who started his entertainment career as a model. "I strongly recommend you to visit the National Palace Museum when traveling Taiwan. Kaohsiung, the second largest city, also has many notable tourist attractions," continued Yan who served in the Taiwanese army.

Although the group had not been together for a while, each pursuing a solo career, they still seemed to have a lot more to show as a team, including their first concert in Korea. "Our agency is contacting Korean agents. I hope that all four of us will be able to see you again at a concert," said Chou, who worked with Korean actress Park Eun-hye last year in the Hong Kong television drama "Silence."

"It was fun to work with her. I also like So Ji-seop (the star of KBS drama "I am Sorry, but I Love You") because he has eyes with single eyelids, just like Vanness," he joked. Wu, on the other hand, showed great interest in Korean action films.

"I wish I could act together with Kwon Sang-woo ("My Tutor Friend") someday and also with Ryu Seung-Beom, the star of 'Arahan,'" said Wu who appeared with a cane because of his sprained foot. Some of his fans seemed to almost feel his pain as their own, but he made their hearts lighter by cheerfully saying "Jigeumeun Gwaenchanayo," or I'm okay now.

"I have been familiar with Korean culture and language from when I was very young," said Wu, a powerful and charismatic rapper, who claims to be a close friend of such renowned K-pop stars as Shin Hye-sung, Kim Jo-han (former singer of R&B trio Solid) and Lee Ji-hoon.

As a goodwill ambassador, the group will also be involved in the production of a 25-part television series titled "Wish to See you in Taiwan," sponsored by the Taiwan Tourism Bureau. "Try ma la huo guo in Taiwan, which is Taiwanese-style hot and spicy shabu shabu. And don't miss mango sherbet," said Chu, a multi-talented artist who speaks five languages.

The Asian heartthrobs left for Taiwan on Saturday, after three in the country.

F4 are the leading pioneers of China Wave (Hua Liu). In 2002 (?), Meteor Rain went though all over Southeast Asia and also in Japan. Many Japanese gilrs were struck by F4. However, the mainstream media was not keen at the shining of F4 as against to their reporting to Korean stars again and again. When they brought Japanese subtitles to "Meteor Garden" , they aired it only in the wee hours at 2-3 am. But as usual, fans kept bitterly looking forthat F4 sting and traces, or make stop ups at the airports to fly and visit Taiwan so they can see and meet them .Now, when 4000 fans turned up at the airport to welcome their arrival, fans only saw them briefly, in a narrow and orderly line, cheering for them. This made Jerry felt very sorry that they had little time for them.


I'm also an F4 fan already. In Japan, after I watched the first episode I immediately thought that they are full of aggressiveness with a little devilish character. The very handsome Dao Ming Si is so enchanting to look at. When I went to Shanghai, I also brought along a VCD set on my return. Several of my female colleagues are also F4 fans. Some likes Jerry whie some likes Zaizai... In the inauguration of my lady boss' beauty shop,we both talked about F4. When she heard I also like Jerry, she then also wanted to learn Chinese, so she can speak with Jerry when she comes to see him Taiwan. It looks like F4 as a market sales plan to boost Taiwan tourism are now bringing in results!

For the scheduled April 22 F4 Japanese and Korean International Fans Gathering to be held in Taiwan, travel agencies' list of tourists coming for the event and Taiwan tour package has been filled to capacity, and in which the venue to be used will not be enough to accommodate the 5000 participants. Traffic Ministry's Tourism Bureau is now mapping out to look for another bigger venue.

The Tourism Bureau estimates that the F4 endorsement will increase Taiwan Japanese and Korean tourist influx by 7%, which can immediately earn 42 Hundred million dollars of business opportunities for Taiwan.

Tourism Bureau's International Project Head Huang Jing Hu pointed out that the F4 Fan Gathering and Tour of Taiwan travel package includes the travel trips and lodging, plus a free travel bag(?). According to the list of those who reserved for lodging , tourist groups spent 60,000 to 110,000 yens (about NT$20,000 to 30,000). According to the travel agents, their data showed that their Japanese and Korean tourists could reach from 8,000 to 9,000 people, so the originally planned Taiwan University Alumni Auditorium venue for the Fan Gathering will not be enough for the huge crowd.The Tourist Bureau has requested the 26 travel agencies to supply them with a list of the final number of Korean and Japanese tourists coming, so that they can arrange for a more suitable and bigger venue.

Taiwan Tourism Bureau announced infromation related to 4/22 F4 fanmeeting. Those who want to participate it should purchase a package tour item from a travel agency. TTB appointed specific travel agencies.

700 Tickets for F4 fanmeeting will be provided for free, but only a ticket is unavailable. Each travel agency was allocated with limited amount of tickets. They'll provide several differnet tour items, whose prices are, fortunately, pretty reasonable.
