Jerry Yan chased a Korean star and felt happy to see Jin Hui ZiSource: Liberty Times December 8, 2006 Scanned news clipping by mamy of Jerry's Harbor: www.nbbbs.com/forum/attachments/1208%20001_vbBxv7DCwvbR.jpgHadn't thought that Taiwanese idol and Heavenly King Jerry Yan (left) is also a super idol! Yesterday afternoon, he and "Goong Princess Hours" "Her Majesty Queen" Jin Hui Zi (right) happily met each other and both exchanged tips on charity work. Jerry rarely looks as if he is the fan but he also didn't forget to ask for Jin Hua Zi's autograph signed on the book. The travel-worn Jerry Yan flew off to Seoul, Korea the other day. Now, in order to hold a World Vision activity, he was at the ARKO Art theater yesterday afternoon and met with World Vision Korea Goodwill Ambassadress, veteran Korean actress Jin Hui Zi. Jin Hui Zi boasted and praised Jerry who looked more handsome and stronger than he appears in TV. Jerry then said that Jin Hui Zi is very kind, and in a super good mood. For the Korean media, Jerry expressed that he had already read some of Jin Hui Zi's written books where he felt very touched after reading it. Regarding her past 10 years of dedicated charity service he salutes and respects her. He knew that Jin Hui Zi joined the stage play "Doubt" before, and so he took the initiative to ask that he must go to the University Street Theater to meet his idol Jin Hui Zi. Jerry Yan hopes for more opportunities to work with World VisionPosted: 13 December 2006 1323 hrs Jerry Yan Wherever he goes, groups of girls and women run after him, screaming his name, even in non-Mandarin speaking countries such as Thailand, Japan and the Philippines. Singer and actor Jerry Yan, who played the lead role in popular Taiwanese television series Meteor Garden, took Asia by storm when it hit screens in 2001. Yan, together with his three male co-stars from Meteor Garden later formed Taiwanese boyband F4. Apart from singing and acting, Yan, who's also the 2007 Asian Spokesman for World Vision, devotes his time to charity work and recently made a trip to Mongolia to spend time with the children. Yan uses his standing as a popular star to get his fans to sponsor children in Mongolia and in his interview with Prime Time Morning’s Suzanne Jung, he revealed that he could identify with the children there because of his own difficult childhood, “Previously, I never thought that there will be one day where I have the means to personally help these children and be able to gather all these kind souls to help these children. “I personally feel, because when I was young, my family was quite poor, so we too used to receive help from other people. Because of their help, I can be what I am today. Therefore, I feel that it is really great to help others. It's a kind of happiness that most people don't normally get to experience. When you help others, you realise that you gain a lot of insight and it's really touching.” After spending time with the children, Yan says he truly understands the meaning of pure happiness, “When you are there, you see those children, their joy shines through from their hearts. You can see them happily running along the streets. And then you see them, say at an empty field, playfully dragging a bucket behind them as they run all over the place. Then you really understand their kind of pure happiness. It makes you envy them.” The Child Sponsorship Ambassador hopes that he will be able to work with World Vision every year, to visit other countries and meet the children there. - CNA source:CNA

transcript Jerry on Prime Time Asia on CNA interview 13.12.2006source: www.channelnewsasia.com/entertainment/index.htmJERRY: by observing how they live, i learnt a lot about....what we don't normally seen in children living in urban cities. Q: How did you feel when you saw them? JERRY: My feelings? i guess for us who live in the cities or more developed areas, we really have more than we need, we are not easily satisfied, but when we look at the children there, you realized that they derive pleasure from the simple things, you can tell from their faces that their joy is sincere & heartfelt. Q: What were the difficulties faced by the children? JERRY: Common difficulties? They're not getting a chance to have proper education, many of the children don't have a place to stay, many lived in the subway tunnels. The weather is very cold & the environment isn't very good. What left a deep impression on me was.....for example the children from poorer families they are quite independent, they are more matured of their age. Previously, i never thought that....there will be a day where i have the means to personally help these children & be able to gather all these kind souls to help these children, I personally feel because when i was young, my family was quite poor, so we too used to received help from other people. Because of their help, i can be what i am today. Therefore, i feel that it is really great to help others. It's a kind of happiness that most people.... don't normally get to experience. When you help others, you realize that you gain a lot of insight & it's really touching. Most surprising? i guess i was more surprised seeing the innocent joy that they had on their faces, because we may think that these children, wouldn't be very happy & they have such tough lives. But actually....when you are there & you see those children, their joy shines through... from their hearts. You can see them happily running along the streets. And then you see them say at an empty field playfully dragging a bucket behind them as they run all over the place. Then you really understand their kind of pure happiness. It makes you envy them. Q: Now let's talk about your career, whether it's singing or acting....you are very good at both. What is you secret to success? JERRY: I guess i'm not considered very successful, I haven't really shown that i am a very good actor. As for singing, i feel i still have a lot of room for improvement. But now i am very fortunate to be exposed to more people. Because of that, now i have higher expectations for myself. Whether i am acting or singing I can have more opportunities to learn. Q: There are also people who say that you success due to your good looks, maybe because they are jealous. They say that your handsome looks brought you a lot of opportunities. What do you think? JERRY: When i was young i thought that, of course with looks you will stand out & you'll be given more or better opportunities. But in the end you still have to rely on your talents & your efforts to survive in this industry. Because in realit, If you're just starting off for.... the first two or three years your looks will help others accept you easily. But to continue if you only have looks, I think you will not survive for long, because there are always new talents coming into the entertainment industry & maybe might be goodlooking as you. This is also why i constantly remind myself to gain recognition for my efforts & not be noticed because of my looks. Q: What plans do you have for the future? In the next step of your career, what new challenges would you like? JERRY: My challenges? I guess i hope to be able to have more work. Some people say that they have to wait too long before i come out, with my new shows & album. But i don't want to give myself too much pressure. I just want to try out different types of things...different types of shows & learn more from these. Q: In future do you have any plans to break into markets outside of Asia? Maybe Hollywood? JERRY: I'm not thinking about it, I don't think it's possible. Because currently, for me know my capabilities. I tend to concentrate more say.... When i am in Taiwan, & when i have time, I'm taking classes, like english & dance lessons. I feel that i should do my part... to improve myself first. Well i don't even talk about Hollywood already, In Asia there are many people whom i cannot be compared to. So i'm not thinking so far ahead. I'm more of a pragmatic person. Q: Presently, you've had six years of success in you career, what is...your most memorable incident? What is your most precious moment? JERRY: Most precious moments? It should be during at our concerts. Because that is the time after practicing so hard for the dances, & piano playing & i got on stage for that day or for those few hours, you really get the support & applause from so many people. This is something that is very hard to forget for many artiste. And we were very touched especially when we were on stage. Q: What is the wildest thing your fan have done for you? Do you still remember? JERRY: The wildest thing? Actually, it's quite alright...They are not really...they are glad to see me, & when i see them i will also very happy [ in this part they were showing clip during his visit in Malacanang ] Q: Don't they throw things on stage during concerts? JERRY: It's not too bad, yes, there have been times they threw things. But i don't find that too wild, they are just very excited i guess.I don't know i never really went to think so much. Q: What was the most touching moment? JERRY: The most touching moment? As for the time when i was most touched? I think that would be when i'm singing a song & everyone sang with me. Because that's the energy, when everyone sings together, that type of feeling it's very hard to describe with words.. But i feel that everytime when i see that everyone joins in i feel very delighted, very delighted. Q: What are your hopes for 2007? JERRY: My hopes? It's to be able to act in more shows & movies and to release an album. Movies? actually we were discussing about doing an action movie, but later due to some reasons, we didn't discuss further. I personally hope that in the movies there can be some action roles, because i like to play ball & exercise . So i think i should be able to explore more with action movies. Then in terms of television shows, i have seen a script that i really like. But whether it'll be done has yet to be confirmed. But if i could act in it, well, that is the character & storyline that i really like. During his visit to Presidential Palace, visiting President Arroyo of Phillipines..

People: Celebrity Ambassador Updated:2006-11-28 08:52:04 MYT
Known by most as a member of Taiwanese boyband F4 and for playing the role of hot-tempered Daoming Si in popular TV serial Meteor Garden, Jerry Yen may look the part of a pretty boy.
However, he certainly doesn't act like one.
The 29-year-old bachelor recently roughed it out in Mongolia, cramping his lanky 1.8m frame into a jeep to travel the countryside--a bumpy 8-hour ride per day--and settling down at night on a hard bed in a rustic hostel with unreliable hot water.
He even suffered sunburn and a bloody nose from the bitterly cold but sunny weather. Yet, he never stopped flashing his trademark smile and auntie-killer dimples--all in the hope of spreading good cheer to some of the poorest children in rural Mongolia.
He made the trip as part of his newest role as celebrity ambassador for the Asian offices of World Vision International, a Christian relief and development organisation which strives to combat global poverty, dealing in particular with the plight of impoverished children.
Yen is the first such ambassador for Asia, although the Singapore office of World Vision has in the past recruited help from celebrities such as former Nominated Member of Parliament Eunice Olsen, home-grown singer Kit Chan and current World Vision Singapore ambassador and pop star Joi Chua.
In Mongolia, Yen met some of his sponsored children, whom he supports through World Vision with a monthly donation of SGD45 each a month.
Yen, who shelved his childhood dreams of becoming a professional basketball player years ago, took time out to shoot some hoops with his sponsored child Dorjtovuu Erdenebayar, 10.
The boy's life story struck a chord with Yen. Both grew up in single-parent households and, in the absence of their fathers, started working at a young age to help support the family.
Dorjtovuu's father was imprisoned after stealing animals to feed his family, leaving his wife and five children with little hope for a future until World Vision helped provide jobs, schooling and a new ger (a traditional Mongolian tent).
At the age of 8, Dorjtovuu took on a job: herding animals.
"I can sympathise with the hardship of a single Mum who has to raise a family on her own," said Yen, who took on a job, packing boxes, at the age of 10.
Aside from visiting the rural poor in Dundgobi province, he also mingled with street children in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar.
During the cold winter months, they seek shelter in underground steam tunnels, where they are vulnerable to disease, attacks by homeless adults and even the occasional burst water pipe, which can prove fatal.
Said Yen, "I used to complain about life, but compared to the suffering and courage of these children and families, my problems seem so small."
He is now on a media tour throughout Asia, where he will talk about his week-long visit to Mongolia and the work World Vision does there. (By Kristina Tom, The Straits Times/ANN)
