In today's showbiz Jerry is really unique. As an artist he is one of a kind. Whilst all other idol artists are chasing after money and fame, only going after projects which gives them quick money or raise high publicity, Jerry is chooing such a harsh and time-consuming job as endorser of World Vision at zero fee. Not only that, he has casted away his superstar status and act like locals, to live in shabby house, very poor environment, exposed to harsh weather to complete his work, to visit the kids, and really experience how they live under such harsh conditions. He is really beautiful in and out - as a man he is one of the kindest, in order not to let the local kids down, he pull away his mask and play with the kids in such harsh weather, which explains why he got sunburt and frostbites. He really has a golden heart, and his integrity and compassionate personality win my huge respect. Never had I come across a superstar like this - his goodness is unique in this industry. I will support him forever and he is really our pride. Wish more and more people are attracted by this unique charisma of Jerry.
Can see the purest smile in Jerry and the kid's face. No make up, no glossy costumes, no grand setting, but is the most beautiful shot on earth. We see the goodness and beauty of mankind shine in Jerry’s face and his actions. The way he act, the way he said, all reflect Jerry is a very true and sincere person, not like others just payiing lip service. He knows how to love and care, because he can stand in other's shoes, he can feel their pain. I'm really proud to support such a dignified artist like Jerry.

Shared by michellesk of http://www.nbbbs.com: Source: Malaysian Chinese Newspaper November 3, 2006 Rough translations by Jerry’s Kingdom Jerry Yan learns to be a good fatherAt the end of last month, Jerry Yan for World Vision arrived in Mongolia to visit his sponsored children that allowed him to gain more knowledge on their plight, and decided to be in all places in order to inform the people about this program. Being the Charity ambassador, he would also do charity work. (Kuala Lumpur news) As Child Sponsorship Ambassador for Asia, Jerry Yan stated that today, his most important task is to learn to be a good father! As soon as Jerry left Mongolia where he visited his sponsored children, he went in front of the media for a press meet. “Although I may appear with soft red cheeks from frostbite, yet talking on my Mongolian experience was brimming with happiness.” He had a very strong father instinct, in seeing those children and feeling that warmth. Jerry expressed that at present, he still has not visioned himself in a father role, “I think I still must again study more of those kind of responsibility, among those which I also have to learn.” Already sponsoring 3 children, Jerry even joked that he could use his free time to learn from fathers on how to change diapers. From learning how to be a father, and now with his Mongolian experience, Jerry got very enlightened. “I ended up finding myself not being able to get along with people, especially children. I could not voice out my feelings, and had much difficulty in going along with the children. I then asked myself why their family is so merciless, because those children are all very innocent. I also look like a big child sometimes, so I must learn how to get along with people from now on, wishing I could help more children. I grew up as the sole-breadwinner, and I love my mother very much. I care for her, yet the way I convey my feelings to her is different.” Reason to get married at once Jerry was very happy playing together with his sponsored children in Mongolia. In “The Hospital,” he portrayed the role of a doctor and also understood to be a great doctor. Although he has no real capabilities as a true doctor helping a child, yet he believes he only needs his heart and still can use other ways to help the needy children. Reporters immediately asked him when he’ll settle to get married and he said, “E…..fate will come if I can be a father.” Jerry will be in Malaysia on November 27-28, to meet with fans and share his Mongolian experience Before this, Jerry will go to Japan and then fly to Singapore, Korea, Philippines and Thailand.

During this almost-International Pess Conference, aside from reporters from Taiwan, reporters from Malaysia also broadcast this at the same time. Director of World Vision Taiwan Tu Ming Han states that 400©o000©o000 people in the whole world do not drink fresh water, about 121,000,000 people are deprived from school, 11,000,000 cannot live beyond 5 years old, these figures can be gruesome, and this time by inviting Jerry Yan as the spokesperson in Asia, we are hoping to make more people be aware of the most important factor. Sponsor-a-child campaign is a form of accompanying one child in terms of growth, may it be spiritual, environmental growth and many others. As of now, the whole world has 3,000,000 sponsors who have joined this campaign, hopefully, we could still add 3,500,000 more sponsorship so that more children could be given help. Director Tu expressed that Jerry Yan¡¯s move is a true biography, a written book of courage, love and risks; Surely much more people will be aware of it and even be involved with giving care. First time to be a [Father], he felt happy and specialAfter the Press Conference, Jerry Yan shared his experience with sunburn in Mongolia, [In Mongolia, the temperature can go negative 35 degrees, while during day time its really hot there, I neglected the hot temperature and did not take note how long I was under the heat, and most of the time I was very lazy, but I'm fine now, please do not worry about me.] Although he's faced with an uncomfortable sunburn, Jerry expressed that he was very happy to be with World Vision in Mongolia, before he went for this trip he already knew what he would encounter, [including the water to be used to wash my face, it would be very cold, but when I saw the child's very ordinary reaction, even if they lack basic needs, they live ordinarily, happily and even share it with you, even if the child doesnt like it, he doesnt tell, in this kind of gesture, I think I saw myself when I used to be that naive and simple.] Jerry says, I'm very happy to be able to gather my strength, I believe that more people will be aware how these children need them. Aside from these, Jerry Yan also shared how to be a father the first time, I never thought I could be a father one day, the feeling is too immense, I was holding a very happy moment, hoping I could make them happy, but when I went to visit them, it seems like its in a movie or TV, most of them are kids, facing all the hardships, my heart cannot bear to see it, and even told myself to be brave enough in facing my life. While mentioning this, Jerry even remembered a child from his first visit named Si Ma, the child suffered from imperforated anus, and was even abandoned by her father, letting the child shoulder the body and spiritual difficulty at an early age. Through World Vision's assistance, Si Ma can undergo surgery at Singapore, undergoing a number of major operations, upto this day, Si Ma¡'s condition has received tremendous improvement, her life started to leave the difficulties she has undergone. [It's my first time to see so many scars in one body part, it even happened on a 12-year old girl. When I asked her how would she deal with her father abandoning her, I can see that she doesnt want to speak, that kind of stare, I can still remember it until now; I was wishing I could ask the question in an indirect way, so as not to hurt her feelings even more When asked about Jerry's sponsored child BA Dan, Jerry said: He is almost similar to me, I really love this kind of feeling, knowing I gave only 700 Yuan, we can have a meal or buy new clothes, but then it could already change a life of one child Spent the time meeting children at the Desert¡, I saw my past and futureOpening up another topic, Jerry mentioned that during this trip, he felt he doesnt know how to interact with people, [I'm like a Big Kid, I still have a lot to learn.] He remembered a time when he was playing basketball with a kid, {the kids were really short that I'm afraid I could accidentally kick them, and still, I dont know how to play with them. In the end, there were other friends who joined us, seeing them play with those kids, I realized I can carry them on my shoulder and play with them.] During this trip he also recalled how he makes some gesture with his family,
During this trip, Jerry Yan also visited those kids which were sponsored by the fans for almost 5 years, his deepest impression went to Na Lan BAi Ya whose father was diagnosed with liver cancer, while the mother makes handicrafts for living, income can only reach less than 500NT a month which must take care of 3 little girls, [Maybe because I grew from a family of single parent, I can absorb what they're going through, when I knew that their father will not stay long in this world, looking at their kids, when time comes they could end up like me¡] as he talked about it, Jerry¡'s unable to hide his sadness. [Personally, I'm a guy who is easily affected with anything, I feel like crying whenever I recall everything that has happened.] This time he said, aside from his underwear, everything that he brought with him like goodies, school supplies and shirts were all given to the children, he recalled when he was a kid, every New Year, there is this uncle from Hong Kong who brings Peking Duck to them during his visit, this is one of the best memories he had when he was a kid, [Until now, I would still visit that Uncle, I felt that the kids and I share the same feeling, hoping that this person would always be around, always bringing them a good memory during their childhood.
Jerry even expressed, not only in Mongolia, there are more places in the world which need help, he hopes that in the future he can preserve a long-term relationship with World Vision, not only just a spokesperson, but a true worker, [Whatever I can do, I¡¯ll try my best to do it.] Jerry Yan mentioned that he is very thankful for World Vision Taiwan for giving him a chance to see what the world needs, in the near future, not only he is involved with the Sponsor-a-child program, he also wanted to encourage relatives and friends to join this [Sponsor-a-child Program], [In Mongolia, most of the family can only earn less than 500NT a month, for just 700 yuan, we can give a lot of help for these families.
SPOKESPERSON FOR ASIA, SPREADING HIS LOVE AND CARE World Vision Taiwan expressed, Virtue will not lead to solidarity, surely it will gain you a neighbor! Aside from Jerry Yan being the spokesperson, the Sponsor-A-Child program has already gained 3,000,000 sponsors, in Taiwan, we would like to thank each host and Taiwan Gu Wang ADSL Ltd. Co. for its strong recommendation for the Sponsor-A-Child program, they have been participating for three years now and even helped in promotions and spreading the program throughout Asia, it also included the backdrops for this Press Conference, etc; GRAND FORMOSA REGENT TAIPEI has also prepared a Christmas-lighting Charity Event, Yahoo Kimo has given a charity webpage and blog for advertisement, CARMEX and other products are also willing to help, Taiwan Fur has sponsored the Mongolian trip¡¯s coats, the ones Jerry Yan wore were already up for auction in World Vision's Official Website, bidding has already reached 100,000NT.

Jerry Yan acts “cute”, thought of putting the kids in packages and carry them home(2006.11.03 China Times) translated by: yanaliao-F4Pilipinas Jerry Yan’s trip brought him tears in the middle of happiness, he is full of kid language during day time, the [Uncle Jerry] who loves act [cute], he dances and sings with the kids; during night as the temperature drops to negative 10 degrees, he enters the water sewage and experience the life of kids along the sidewalk, opening his thoughts about these, he is filled with mixed emotions Unsecured during his visit, met some strange people During this time, Mongolia’s temperature already dropped to negative degrees, many kids played under the heat during daytime while during nighttime they nestle along the hot water pumps, with garbage and foul smell from every corner is where they take refuge, day and night, Jerry joined the World Vision staffs and visited these kids, [When we went there, the police and staffs asked us to be low profiled, because the security nearby is not good, they’re afraid to arouse suspicions from local gangsters, when I went there, I saw some strange people, but I looked at them.] There were no ladders going down the water passage, so Jerry had to go down slowly to the passage, the whole water passage is about 200cm, and one can smell the foul odor at once. Aside from the kids, there are some homeless locals residing down there, and if the old pipes break one day, these kids can be scalded by the water and it can put their lives in danger. When the little girls saw him, they shouted Dao Ming SiJerry Yan also had established with World Vision a [Deng Ta zhi Jia] (Light Tower Family) before, there were at least 15 little girls, age bracket from 7 to 17 years old, some of them were maltreated by their parents, while others were kicked-out of their homes, Jerry said, looking at their ordinary expressions, it’s very hard to believe that they were once wandering along the streets. When Jerry Yan appeared, they became so excited with their big round eyes staring at him, these girls did not call him [Jerry], but they called him [Dao Ming Si]. A little girl said that they had a TV Station in Mongolia where she saw [Meteor Garden], but she never knew that his name is [Yan Cheng Xu]. It’s so rare for them to see an artist that everybody grabbed a pen and asked for Jerry’s autograph, Jerry joked and said:
Gave some candies to the kids and played some games
Aside from these, World Vision will also set-up for the kids a [Search Center] and [Entertainment Center] at Wu Lan Ba Tuo. Jerry said, seeing the kids singing and dancing, even though we utter different languages, but through our eyes we communicate and laugh, I can feel they are very simple.
Jerry joined the kindergarten kids, he didn’t know where to put his hands when they started, he said: When he brought out some cotton candies, then sang and danced with them, he slowly went along with them.
There were some kids who still don’t know how to eat the cotton candies, Jerry stared at them as he said: [These candies which are very common in Taiwan, when brought to this place, becomes a treasure, I watch them grab the candies and ate them bit by bit.]
Jerry even made himself sound like a kid, laughs at himself as he wanted to hold their temples for check-up, he said, every time he saw a kid, he would aggressively want to package them and take them home, in the middle of this desert, Jerry Yan played Eagle-catching-Chicken game with the kids, he was so high, so he taught the kids how to play Hai Dai Quan (if I’m not mistaken it’s like rock, paper, scissors). As he continued playing with the more matured kids, he rarely became this playful and even said: [You must act effeminate, alright?]

Today news - the focus is on Jerry's exclusive interview in a TW TV program - the light of TW. In this program, Jerry described how he tried to walk down the underground pipeline system, to experience how the street kids sleep at nite to keep warm. Very touching and impressive life experience. Jerry also expressed in this program that because he came from a single family, he isn't good in interacting with people, he is very shy and doesn't know how to express love and care to others, even to his most beloved mum. He cited one example, saying that now he has become more health conscious, and each morning he will take oats and milk as breakfast, and he wants his mum to do the same too for health reason. However, if his mum won't listen, he will be very crossed and tried to make her give way by saying " If you don't eat and take good care of yourself, I won't give you money", of course he is joking, and his mum knows it as well, it is just the way they interact with each other. Jerry also said even when he is working as bartender, he just wants to concentrate on his work, and let other bartenders do the social. He said he is not a very romantic person, and does not like to pay lip service compliments. He is very practical person and if he loves somebody, he will show his love in very practice way rather than saying sweetie words.
Like in all exclusive TV interviews, this shows Jerry isa very compassionate and sincere person. He really puts himself in the shoes of the Mongolian child and is very very affectionate towards these poor kids. He is a very down to earth and true person, which makes him so unique in this field. The way he talks, the way he act all reflect that he is a person with a golden heart, a reliable, responsible, trustworthy and compassionate person. He shows his love to his mum by action, not like others, just paying lip service. It's a shame that media loves to pull in the love gossip - 040 under all circumstances, and won't let Jerry off even though he makes it clear so many time that he doesn't want to comment on this subject again. Anyway, I'm sure this Worldvision Mongolia journey will give media an opportunity to see the good side of Jerry, to cast away their prejudice and give Jerry all the credits which are long overdue. From last 2 days news, it is clear that even the hostile media are very impressed by Jerry's integrity, his respectable personality. Honestly, who other superstar today is willing to take up such harsh, voluntary job even for such long period. This is what makes me so proud of Jerry. His goodness is time-proven and his beauty is in and out which makes him so unique in today showbiz.

In sharing his mission experience with the poor children in Mongolia, he narrated that when he was in Ulan Bator City, there were about 4000 children living in the streets. Their families only live in the sewers and gets warm from the sewer heater tube. On midnights, these street children hide in these sewers to sleep and get warmth. Raging the darkness to look for street children As black gangs looks angrilyJerry raged the dark midnight to look for street children’s footprints. Due to many street children factions, he also met these bully-staring groups in his search for the street children. He frankly spoke, ”These people looked really fierce”. Jerry said that he had not thought that the sewerage could be that huge. When he opened the sewer lid, he immediately smelled the fume coming out to his face, which can cause anyone to vomit, and can’t imagine people would be underneath sleeping there. The sewerage was really worseHe said that he went down into a ladder and saw two children who were about to sleep. Everywhere there were garbage and rats. He felt embarrassed disturbing the street children plus its really foul smell. Many of these street children’s families have no sources of livelihood so they run away from their families and boys would be involved in street gangs while girls would sell their bodies. In addition to getting into the severs to personally experience their life, he also went to visit a street children reception center to visit some female street children. Jerry Yan reveals, uses Money to threaten his MomJerry Yan reveals he has a "illness" of being unable to express himself and should go for lessons. As to the ways of being caring to his mom, he blames himself for being unable to do so and will threatened his mom that he will not give her money if she doesn't eat. As he has seen his mom suffering since young, he have been so used to being a not mature daddy and disciplines his mom like a younger sister. Although it was lack of the gentle side of him, but his family will always know his concern. Yesterday, when Jerry attended the program for San Li, "Taiwan Liang Qi Lai", he recieved Chen Ya Ling's interview. As he was ina good mood, he talked about lots of things. He said he was enlightened on how health is so important and started adjusting his body quality. He would take cornflakes and milk for breakfast and forced his mom to eat as well. Jerry said, "I don't know how to encourage my family members in good words, like how everyone would use health as a aim, but when my mom refuse to eat, i'll get very angry and threaten her that i won't give her money if she don't eat." Chen Ya Ling got a shock and Jerry explained, "I told you i can't really express myself, that is not what i meant, but my mom probably treats it as wanting attention." Seeing that Jerry's mood was rather good, she used the chance to ask Jerry, "I thought you said you like girls who make the first move, so Lin Zhi Ling takes initiative and gives you advice on how to cure your "sunny wound", what do you think?" Only seeing him laughing for a long time and he didn't answer the question directly in the end, "I don't know how to express myself, i'm a more realistic guy." In a gray sky and vast field, As the wind blows the grass, Jerry Yan bows to see the ox and sheepSource: Liberty Times November 5, 2006 Jerry starts to cherish and smile in the dry desert Summary only: At the end of last month, Jerry uncertainly set off from Taipei towards the Mongolian Republic as "Child Sponsorship Program" Ambassador for World Vision. Lying deep within the center of the Mongolian desert, Jerry visited the place with about 30% living below poverty.( with average income of only US$1.00 per day). Jerry asked the reporters," Are you not scared? You are all brave. I'm afraid of anything." From the plane, Jerry could see that Mongolia had no greeneries and the soil was red. The dry red clay extended to the white snow. Due to the long snow season, food is scarce, children are malnourished and exodus of the people is high. The hotel where Jerry stayed is only US$5.00 per night, very short with amenities, and with dim lights and molds in the walls. Along the way, Jerry visited his actual sponsored children's yurt, because it doesn't require money to built it, and it can be transported anywhere. When they went inside the yurt, they were cooking livestock manure to warm themselves, and one can already smell the sheep's urine. The host gave sheep's milk yogurt and sheep's milk tea for Jerry to taste. The yogurt was very densely frozen, and inside the mouth the taste of sheep urine won't go, and was very strong. Jerry also sneaked into the grassy field and enjoyed the taste of riding on a camel. He desperately pulled the string so the camel would move. He commented that the camel was like forever chewing a gum, and was spitting to people. Jerry pulled up his leg at once to run, and decided to walk beside his camel instead and then joked, "I look like a knight, eh!" ************************ Bao Long sounded like a father Wanted his child to feel really wellJerry went all out to play with the children and Pulled closer to each otherOral account: Jerry Yan At first, I'm very optimistic to go to Mongolia. I also joked that I would be making magic tricks for the children to see, and I want get along with the children, wish the children could trust me and we could play together, but of course, it was not that simple. Because then I found out that I cannot get along very well with the people, and neither can I spur their mood. At the beginning, the children were aloof, and only followed me when when we had basketball. In my mind, I thought that scrambling for the ball would be stressful for them and hurt the kids. Afterwards, I saw how others got noisy with the children, and that was the only time I knew that I can actually then play with ease. The process let me learn to be a father. My deepest impression is when I carried a small girl to her home. While I held her, I thought that although I'm a bit uncomfortable, she should be the one to feel the most comfort. Also, when her small hand held my hand, trusted me until the end, I immediately thought of its tremendous responsibility. At the same time, I thought that people wanted to feel really well. [Interview] Jerry Yan’s Feelings About His Mongolian Trip ~ 20th Oct 2006
Repost from yanchengxu.net Translated by Kym Please give due credit when reposting.
Jerry Yan’s Feelings About His Mongolian Trip ~ Bringing 3 Million Peoples’ Moving Concern 2006/10/20 19:23
As the 2007 Asian Spokesman for the World Vision, Jerry Yan is about to set off for Mongolia. He brings with him like-minded expectations and concerns of the other 3 million World Vision Sponsors.
Before departing, Jerry Yan revealed to us his feelings about being the Spokesman and the Mongolian trip.
Question : As an artiste with a hectic schedule, could you please tell us about how you found time to be the Asian Spokesman of World Vision?
Yan : During the Charity Premiere of ‘The Hospital’, I came in touch with Taiwan’s World Vision. Before that, many good friends from my Fan Club and I have also donated to the cause. I know that the World Vision has helped many poor children within Taiwan and overseas.
In fact, I have seen reports in the papers and TV news about many poor children and their plights. I was deeply saddened and hoped to help them more. However besides donating, I really was at a loss. So during ‘The Hospital’ Premiere, I met up with the Chairman of World Vision, Mr. Du Ming Han. ‘If there is any way that I could help, please let me know.’ I told him then. But I didn’t expect that within such a short time, I could actually just readjust my work schedule and still fulfill my wish to help the children. So I was only too happy to accept.
Question : Besides your compassion for the children, do you have any other previous life’s experiences that endeared to these poor children’s needs?
Yan : I think from young, I have often experienced how childhood hardships are caused by financial burden. Many people feel that children should be happy and be looked after but in fact these children have lost many of what they should have in reality. Since Primary 4 or 5, I had worked on jobs like packaging toys to help out. I still remember I could earn NT$500. We would go to work and then my dad would fetch us home at night. There were many older children in the factory but my sister and I were the youngest. Later, I mostly worked to support myself through my studies. During my Pre-University days, I have even worked at a bar before. Perhaps it is because of these that I can really feel for these little ones’ hardships. Like in Mongolia, financial difficulties have caused many children to roam the streets, family violence or homelessness. When I knew of this, I could feel how such hardships leave many helpless with no other alternatives.
Question : As a World Vision Sponsor, could talk about how you feel about this or your deepest impression?
Yan : When I receive information sent by World Vision about the children and I often think about how their living environment is really like. Like these 2 little ones in Mongolia, in the photos the azure blue sky and yellow desert are behind them. I keep thinking about how great it would be to visit them one day, to see where their homes are and where their school is.
Later I found out from my colleagues at World Vision that there are 3 million people who like me are sponsors as well. Everyone is helping so many children together. When I became a Spokesman, I felt that I have a greater sense of purpose. I am not only helping myself but also to visit where other children live for everyone too. Of course, Mongolia does not represent the whole world and I do not think I can represent all the worldwide sponsors. But I hope to share with all in Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Philippines, these 7 countries what I have brought back from Mongolia. This is so that more will know about the Sponsorship Scheme and all of us can do more for them.
Question : Would you talk about your impressions and views of Mongolia?
Yan : Before, Mongolia is a very beautiful place to me. The spacious blue skies and picturesque fields, I have always admired and liked how the steppes are so vast and the carefree lifestyle. I have always hoped to have a ranch there when I retire. Later I heard that in winter, the average temperature in Mongolia is -44 degrees. Many animals die of starvation so many children are without food and families with no heat. Some street urchins even hide in the underground pipes for heat and are often scalded or burnt to death. Winter is thus a very miserable time for many children. When I think about this, I feel very sad.
I kept asking about what kind of gifts are best suited for the kids. Actually I look forward to this trip very much. Yet I worry about how I might be saddened by the children’s plight. When I was packing, I especially prepared some gifts for them, hoping that they may cheer up a little.
Question : Outer Mongolia is now in winter, did you make any special preparations? Anything worried you?
Yan : My colleagues at The World Vision told me that the average temperature there is about -6 degrees now so we prepared the basic winter clothing, lanolin and others. I am not worried about anything actually. But friends might be concerned that since I have just returned from Australia (as Jolin Chai’s Concert Special Guest) and is immediately going to Mongolia, whether I will be tired or unable to take the cold weather. I want to tell everyone I am very healthy! So everyone please do not worry at all. What’s most important is that we have brought what the children need safely to them. And to let the whole of Asia know. To be concerned about this is the most important.
Question : Besides Outer Mongolia, any arrangements in your trip to visit other Sponsored children?
Yan : Yes, besides visiting the 2 boys that I sponsor, we will visit the street urchins and personally visit where they stay at the underground water pipes. I will visit some other children and their families of extreme circumstances too. Furthermore, I know that my fan friends have sponsored 29 children from World Vision and 5 are Mongolian children. In this trip, I hope to represent these friends to meet up with 5 children. I will definitely take more photos to share with everyone. This will be our experience in spreading our love.

Part 1 [Radio Interview] Jerry with DJ Guang Xu ~ 2nd Nov 2006 credit: kym of jerrybbs. com for the english translation
DJ : Guang Xu
BBBThe music of 1 Metre
Guang : The 1 Metre person. . . is here again. . . He is only 1 metre away from me. . . and is fast approaching. . . Please have a seat. . . In the last sentence of the lyrics - I could only fulfill your wish in letting you leave my side. Life is a kind of coming together and parting. Yet besides these, there are also some things that can have more impact. When one is used to watching TV soaps, you might not know that in other corners of the world are like living hells. It could be like living each day as if there werenft a tomorrow. . . Just heard e1 Metref and now he is really 1 metre away from me. But the distance of our hearts shouldnft be that far away. . . he could be very much closer to everyone. He is ready to tell us about how he is lately, how he feels. Letfs welcome, Mr. 1 Metre, Jerry Yan. Hello.
Jerry : How are you, Big Brother Guang Xu. How is everyone, friends of the Ye Guang Family? I am Jerry Yan.
Guang : Welcome back after being scalded. . .ha ha. . .
Jerry : Ha ha. . .Thatfs right.
Guang : But that is a small thing, whatfs important is that youfve personally experienced some moving scenes.
Jerry : Yes, a different Life experience and feelings.
Guang : You went to Mongolia as the Spokesman for World Vision Taiwan. To see their local needs, go to school and visited some the children there.
Jerry : Yes.
Guang : From the images we saw in the papers and media, one might think of how your father had passed on when you were small too.
Jerry : Yes.
Guang : Memories of your past could have come flooding back.
Jerry : Yes!
Guang : Yet when you went there personally, their conditions were much worse than yours. Even worse than your growing up years.
Jerry : Many are so too. We are very lucky actually. Itfs because where we live is still very modern. So no matter how bad it is when we compare to theirs, itfs nothing.
Guang : We are not as bad as them. Could you tell us the gist of your Mongolian trip and how many days you were there then. . .
Jerry : We were there for seven days inclusive of travel. . . and then...
Guang : At a bitter cold temperature of 40 degrees below.
Jerry : Yes.
Guang : The sun was so scorching hot!
Jerry : Yes, it was so unimaginable that you might be. . . ha ha. . . accidentally epoisonedf by it.

Part 2 [Radio Interview] Jerry with DJ Guang Xu ~ 2nd Nov 2006 credit: kym of jerrybbs. com for the english translation
Guang : Did you put sun-block?
Jerry : That’s true but you know guys like me. . .don’t think much about that.
Guang : Since you love sports, it never occurred to you that at minus 40 degrees, it would be that bad.
Jerry : Yes, that’s right. . .
Guang : Fortunately the sun didn’t hurt your eyes or else it would be worse. . .
Jerry : Oh. . .
Guang : You did wear sunglasses right?
Jerry : No, not at all!
Guang : Wow! You think that your eyes are made of steel. . .
Jerry : We know it for a fact that when we face the sun, we have to close our eyes. Once our eyes have adjusted to the light intensity then we can open them. So it won’t be too glaring. . .Furthermore we didn’t even look at that, I mean look directly at the sunlight. . .
Guang : Mmm. . .
Jerry : So it isn’t that serious. . .
Guang : Did you wear a hat?
Jerry : No.
Guang : No too. . .
Jerry : I did wear a woolen hat but it doesn’t have a bill. . .so there isn’t any shade. . .
Guang : So you had your eyes wide open to capture all that there was to see in all those seven days.
Jerry : Yes.
Guang : Which part of inner Mongolia did you go to?
Jerry : We went to their Capital and a small town in the inner parts. . .it’s should be more. . .
Guang : More inland. . .
Jerry : Yes, it’s where they have the Mongolian yurts are. It’s about 7 to 8 hours ride from the Capital.
Guang : 7 to 8 hours ride. . .
Jerry : Yes, cause it is more remote. . .more inland and the roads are not like in the even roads in Taiwan.
Guang : Having proper roads.
Jerry : So you might feel that it’s very bumpy but the scenery along the way is quite beautiful.
Guang : Majestic.
Jerry : It’s very different. Like you might see a vast grassland and later on you could pass that kind. . .
Guang : Like the desert sands. . .
Jerry : Yes, and then behind that you will see snow. All different kinds of scenery. . .just so very majestic. . .
Guang : Mmm, so besides getting an understanding of how hard the lives of these Inner Mongolian childrens are, you went for some sight-seeing as well. . . Jerry : Sight-seeing. . .I suppose so. . .
Guang : Along the way you saw various features of the terrain.
Jerry : Yes, I did. Mongolia is actually not the huge desert that I imagined it to be. It really has some very unique scenery.
Guang : In order for us to understand how the situation of the local children, World Vision brought you to Mongolia. To see how they live and aren’t able to go to school. You visited a few families or maybe some local children. . .
Jerry : Yes.
Guang : Would you like to speak briefly about it. . .
Jerry : I visited the child that I sponsored. Actually there are a few different encounters, quite touching really. Like something might happen out of the blue when we were there so my feelings before and after were not the same. Like before I went I thought that I must cheerful when I see them so that I can them some joy. That was how I felt before I went.
Guang : This is the norm when one prepares oneself mentally. . .
Jerry : It’s because I didn’t want to be sad over there. I feel that they are already in that way of life so we might burden them emotionally if we are very sad. In fact, I felt that one should be very cheerful to these little ones. Just to have fun and play with them, that’s all.
Guang : Mmm.
Jerry : When you are there, you would find that their life experiences and family background are so different. Like I saw a girl who is plagues by a rare disease since young. She can’t get rid of her wastes normally and has gone through numerous operations. In the end, a bag was attached to her for the wastes. If you talked to her, you might not be able to take it, to imagine the pain she has experienced. Later they requested that she flip over her clothes. . .I was really taken back a little. . .you can see all the scars on her body. . .
Guang : So mang holes, too many scars. . .
Jerry : And they were very big and in the back. . .
Guang : It goes right through.
Jerry : Yes, and it sinks right in so then. . .When I saw that on the spot I was. . .
Guang : Such a close proximity.
Jerry : Yes, You will feel that this little girl. . .Usually when we read articles as you know. . .
Guang : What she has experienced. . .
Jerry : Yes, you might just imagine it but when you see it for real, you would find that it is quite. . .
Guang : Astounding.
Jerry : Yes and you would feel for her. . .
Guang : Heartache. . .

Part 3 [Radio Interview] Jerry with DJ Guang Xu ~ 2nd Nov 2006
credit: kym of jerrybbs. com for the english translation
Jerry : Yes and she was actually really young, about 10 years old or so. But she has been through numerous operations. At that moment I was thinking if I was that young, would I. . .If you told me that I needed an operation, I would be scared to death. . .but she had been through that countless times. . .
Guang : Mmm. . .
Jerry : So I felt that if I had been through an unsuccessful operation and had to do it again and again, I don’t know. I would feel that my life. . .Basically I am not so optimistic. . .so what about the little girl, how is she so determined to convince herself. . .
Guang : Mmm. . .
Jerry : I believe operations are very painful. Before that, you need to prepare yourself emotionally. And after you need to face up to the physical pain. . .I feel that she has such perseverance. . .So my heart really ached to see how she has to bear up with these. Just thinking about it, I might not even be so. Truthfully it takes such tenacity to accept the reality.
Guang : You have seen other similar cases in outer Mongolia so through World Vision Taiwan, this place would be getting the needed attention and help. . .
Jerry : Yes, I suddenly felt that helping these children is so meaningful. Of course I want emphasize that I went to Mongolia this time but there are many other places I want to go too. In fact I hope to unite all our efforts to help the children of the world. So it is not only to help the Mongolia, it’s just a trip that I went this time.
Guang : To see. . .
Jerry : To visit them and I hope to let everyone know and to promote this event. It’s a mere NT$700 a month. So we are not targeting only a specific place. We went there and so share with all the life in a certain corner of the world. These children are so poor. . .and hope that all of can help all the poor children of the world.
Guang : Yes, Jerry was invited by World Vision Taiwan. This is a colossal project and you need to go to 10 countries. . .
Jerry : Yes, that’s right. . .
Guang : About 10 countries. You need to see and do more than what other friends have done for this charity project. . .So you are flying to these 10 places at one go to gain a deeper understanding. . .There would be many stories that are awaiting for you to encounter. . .
Jerry : Yes. . .Of course I am looking to that. I feel that it is very meaningful and it will change the way I see Life. . .All of us have our own emotions. When one has to face varying circumstances, one would get worked up. But I believe that I will be able to find the strength to face whatever comes my way. These includes what is ahead in my future, whether it be some unhappiness or when I am very down, I feel that I will be more able to pull through. . .
Guang : So when you are faced with past sadness or having to face something difficult, you have become. . .
Jerry : I will be more able to find a way out. . .
Guang : Yes, to find a way out. . .
Jerry : I feel that many people are like me too. In our past we might have some things that we cannot face up to. No matter it be hurt or misfortune, it could be about work or love or in the family. . .but when you think of how these children in the underdeveloped countries are so very different. You might really understand how no matter what it is, we are a hundred times more blessed than they are. .
Guang : Yes. . .the first sentence that Jerry told me today was how he felt that he has changed. From what you have said I can fell that you have changed. . .
Jerry : It should be a cheerful laughter. . .to becoming. . . It’s because for a period previously. . .It was because of the intensity of the character that I was portraying and some of my own experiences so I was quite down about my viewpoints and Life’s encounters.
Guang : Mmm. . .
