To seek sponsors for Mongolia's poor children, Jerry sets a good example of wise spendingSource: www.wenweipo.com/news.phtml?news_id...2&cat=011ENOctober 26, 2006 Previous day, Jerry went to far Mongolia to visit his sponsored childrenAppointed as World Vision's Child Sponsorship Ambassador for Asia-Pacific, Jerry Yan didnt hesitate to put aside his work and took the early flight to Mongolia the other day to visit his actual sponsored two boys and 1 girl schoolers as well as the native poor children. Jerry wore light casual clothes on his way to Mongolia the other day. with stopover for a night in Beijing. Then the next day, he would again fly towards Ulan Bator, Mongolia. Putting down his giant star image, Jerry started off his spokesman identity and travelled in all-simple conformity. Thus, together with his staff, they all took the economy class and would stay in a simple and less-amenities hotel. In this Mogolian trip, Jerry would be bringing all his fans blessings as he goes to visit the native poor children. Among his special mission is to seek future sponsors to some 35,000 poor children. The tall and heavy-built Jerry Yan is but a soft heart. Regarding the poor children's hard life, he would experience their real life, and in order to get close to the children and easily communicate with them, he gathered research on how to talk and listen to the children. To do this, he will do some magic tricks for them and even sing some songs. Media who sent him off at the airport asked him on what he would do if he cant stip himself from crying when he sees the poor children. He sensibly said that he would cover his eyes with sunglasses. Jerry Yan (World Vision Asia Regional Child Sponsor Brings Hope to Needy Children in Mongolia)Jerry Yan (Œ¾³旭 Asian pop star of Taiwan' boy band F4 and lead actor in the popular TV series "Meteor Garden" has been appointed World Vision's first Asia Regional Child Sponsorship Ambassador endorsed by World Vision offices in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. In his first inaugural trip as the humanitarian organisation's Asian Regional Child Sponsorship Ambassador, Jerry will be visiting World Vision supported projects and communities in Mongolia from Oct 24 to 30, 06 under World Vision's Child Sponsorship Programme. He will also be visiting his three sponsored children during the trip. Following Mongolia, Jerry will tour Asia to promote child sponsorship in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore (Nov 29-30, 06) Thailand and Taiwan from November to December 2006. Jerry joins more than 2 million World Vision child sponsors in supporting needy children all around the world. When asked what prompted him to take up this role, he replied:"Becoming a World Vision Child Sponsor has changed me. I had a better understanding of the children living in poverty around this part of the world and the dire circumstances many are living in." Coming from someone who used to work as a part-timer during his 4th to 5th grade in primary school, Jerry could empathise with the economic hardships and struggles many children living in extreme poverty experience. Despite knowing that he will be battering a bitter winter where temperatures can drop to as low as minus six degrees celsius in Mongolia this time of the year, Jerry agreed without hesitation to the visit and remains undaunted and focused on the task ahead, that is to esee for myself, the conditions the children have to bear withh. Remarked Jerry: "I've learnt from World Vision staff that winter temperatures in Mongolia are harsh and can fluctuate to as low as minus 44 degrees. Lots of livestock die from the severe cold and many children therefore have little food to eat, and have no heating at home. Some street children can only get warmth in the underground tunnels where extreme heat of the city's heating system can cause serious injuries and even deaths. Winter is the most difficult time for many Mongolian children." "Many street children in Mongolia are also abused because of the poor economic situation; The reason why they are wandering in the streets is partly because they have no place to stay; They have no other choice but to experience this kind of suffering," he added. Back from being a distinguished guest at Jolin Tsai's concert in Australia, Jerry looks fresh and is looking forward to this trip. In a pre-trip briefing held earlier this week in Taipei, he observed: "I believe this world is still filled with compassionate people who are merely not aware of the ways to give. I hope that through this visit, the people in Asia will have a better awareness of the plight of the poverty-stricken children and extend their hand to help bring hope to these children." In conjunction with the visit, some of Jerry's fan clubs in Asia have collectively sponsored 29 impoverished children through World Vision, five of whom are Mongolian children. The eight World Vision offices will also be posting more information and updates of Jerry Yan's trip to Mongolia on their websites soon. Log on to www.worldvision.org.sg/ for more information about this visit and the benefits of World Vision's Child Sponsorship Programme. 26 October 2006 Press Release: worldvision.org.sg/st_campaign_press1.php******************** NOTE TO MEDIA: 1. DONATE AS JERRYs BIRTHDAY GIFT his birthday will be on this coming January ...posted by kkla at nbbbs.com Sibala [of nbbbs.com] has suggested two methods how we can donate the money to World Vision as Jerry's fans. www.nbbbs.com/forum/viewt%20...%20&extra=page%3D1Method 1. Donate a sum of money for once as Jerry's birthday gift Sibala has provided 4 bank accounts from HK, USA, TW, and Mainland China for fans to donate money to World Vision with nbbbs for Jerry's birthday. The money will be donated to World Vision directly or used for bidding for something provided by WV for auction later. Foreign fans groups which are interested in the idea are welcome to join nbbbs or you may consider donating a sum of money to your local World Vision's child sponsorship program. Method 2. Sibala is discussing with World Vision about assigning a code for Jerry fans who will join the child sponsorship program as sponsors, and fans can choose to donate monthly or yearly by donating the money directly to World Vision. However, this method requires commitment. Therefore, Sibala strongly encourages fans to consider one's ability and determination before choosing method #2. However, whoever has the ability, method 1+2 will be the best.

Mamy has sent an email to TW World Vision (10/28) to ask about Jerry's situation. The correspondant answered that due to poor communication facilities, cell phone/computer can't be used, as the location is a poor site which is 6 hours away from the main city. However, based on the information from the local World Vision team, Jerry's group, including the reporters who went with them, is going just fine and safe. They will be back two days later.
latest update from TW WV blog (posted 2006/10/29 19:25) posted by yami@nbbbs.com
just translated a part of the message: At past 5pm today, we (Tw Worldvision) received word that Jerry and his group have returned safely to Mongolia's capital ,Ulaanbaatar. Tonight, he will still find time to visit families of poor children in Ulaanbaatar.

Jerry looks happy, and he even joked with the fans and told a fan "I am happy to see you." He even bought dvds in a store. When the fans told the male assistant thanks and it must be hard for them, he said that it is Jerry who has put more effort in this project. Oct 31 News Summaries1. Jerry returns to Taiwan wearing a mask Fans at the airport started to be alarmedSource: Lian He Bao udn.com/NEWS/ENTERTAINMENT/ENT1/3581444.shtmlJerry (right), returns to Taiwan from Mongolia, and wears a mask and scarf that blocks his handsome face from a small frostbite as airport fans felt alarmed and hurried to take picturesAs part of his role as World Vision ambassador, Jerry visited Mongolia's poor children. After a week, he returns thin and travel-worn to Taiwan, wearing a mask to cover his sunburned and frostbitten face that fans welcoming him at the airport started to get alarmed. He appealed on all people to address the poor children’s' problems, and eagerly help donate money. Aboard China Airlines, he returned to Taipei at 8:20 pm and he expressed Mongolia’s very different climate – no clouds in the mornings and a very cold minus 10 degrees evenings. However, because they had to take pictures, defense measures had to be taken but still he got sunburn and frostbite. Talking about his Mongolian experience, he then got sensitive and said “Mongolia has full of poor street children, who had no money to go to school, nor a place to live in. They go hungry and frozen, and had no other choices in this kind of life.” Jerry also said that winter in Mongolia is the most severe time. Just to get warm, poor children go to the sewer heaters. Jerry fans from Hong Kong started to sponsor children from World Vision 5 years ago and now they already have 29 sponsored children, with 5 of them from Mongolia. Jerry said that going through all these, he realized that as long as there are several small efforts, it can already change many children’s lives. Tomorrow, Jerry will hold a press conference and also would go to Japan, Malaysia and other countries to promote and share his Mongolia experience. 2. Jerry returns from Outer Mongolia Handsome face seriously struck with frostbiteSource: Min Sheng Bao udn.com/NEWS/ENTERTAINMENT/ENT1/3581233.shtmlBecause of frostbite, Jerry wore a mask when he returned to Taiwan yesterday. As World Vision’s Child Sponsorship Program Envoy for 2007, Jerry Yan went to Outer Mongolia last week and returned to Taiwan yesterday night at 8:30 pm. Because his face was frost bitten, when Jerry walked out of the customs area, his handsome face was covered with a wide mask, that waiting fans can’t help but to send out loving screams. Inspite of this, Jerry kept on reciting “700 Dollars, 700 Dollars” to everyone. World Vision PR head Yang Hui Ping explained that it takes only 700 dollars per month to help Mongolia’s 35,000 sponsored children and Jerry was only doing his role as spokesman. On the other side, Jerry personally experienced the local poor children’s life, that allowed him more not to give up on them. Jerry’s manager Jiang Yi Peng received Fenny’s message the other night that Jerry’s face was sunburned and frost bitten. He frankly reacted that WV had not told them about protection against sunburn, and only warmed them about cold protection so they had not prepared for it. As Jerry remained most of the time on outdoors to take pictures, he got heavy frost bites and his lips also painfully cracked. World Vision also predicted that because Jerry would have a press conference tomorrow, he would also talk to two of his other three sponsored children, Feeling touched, he would surely actively come for them. 3. Jerry returns to Taiwan With a covered frostbitten faceSource: China Times showbiz.chinatimes.com/Chinatimes/E...006103100319,00 .html Jerry wore a mask when he returned last night. to hide away his Mongolian frozen bitten faceAt the end of his 7-day love travel to Mongolia’s poor children, Jerry Yan returned to Taiwan last night. Because his face is full of frost bite rashes, and in order to consider his “reputation” he wore a mask as soon as he landed at the airport, not hoping to show his real self to the people. In the 7-day Mongolia’s frigid and dry weather, Jerry was duty bound as World Vision’s Asian Ambassador. He went through the huge deserts to visit Mongolia’s poor children and also shot the whole day for World Vision documentary short film. As a result, he was sunburned and frost bitten that his skin started to peel off. The different climate damaged this “loves-to-eat” guy and so when he comes to a restaurant, he would immediately apply aloe vera as “first aid” cover. Several days before, when he visited his sponsored children, because of the very dry weather, his nose bleed, allowing the staff to panic immediately. Because of limited funds, Jerry threw off his “idol identity” and sat in economy class, short with amenities at the desert. One night, Jerry and everyone went in a 150 dollars restaurant and took a cold bath under dusky lights. From Ulan Bator, they had to endure an 8-hour car drive and had to eat mutton every day. In the car he sat beside a girl who was holding on his hand so tightly, and went to sleep in his arm because of tiredness. He said, “I had never felt so such need on me, and it also felt pretty good as she depended on me.” Jerry said that his Mongolian trip changed him very much. Before, he would feel very uneasy as he faced the media and cameras. But now, he has not only learned to get along with the children, but also learned to unload his heart as he naturally faces the crowd. Summarized by Jerry’s Kingdom. Thank you for the credits.

thanks to wandergirl @ nbbbs.com sisters, if you check WV Taiwan website www.worldvision.org.twthere is a .gif image of some photos of Jerry in Mongolia I uploaded it elsewhere: There are 6 images total (in the .gif) He looks very very happy with the children ----------------------------------------------------------------- Posted by ciciny and reported by yoa in Chinese translated by kkla of www.nbbbs.comLive report of the World Vision Press Conference (Nov. 1, 2006) the press conference has started9 World Vision's staff is talking said that today is an international press conference for the Child Sponsorship Program 14:30 the host is talking (heard that it is Zhang Lo Jun) said that Ah Xu has written a lot of stories like the story of life, the story of courage, etc... then today 7 media agencies from Malaysia will broadcast the press conference live the live broadcast is sponsored by www.tfn.net.tw14:38pm Lao Da has come out!!!! Now he is talking He wears pink top. As he is sitting, can't see him very clearly Nothing covers his face but there is no obvious mark as it is quite a distance, so can't see it very clearly just showed a short clipwww.nbbbs.com with scenes of Lao Da playing games with the kids it was quite interesting... 15:00 now Jerry is being interviewed by media from different newspapers and having live broadcast with Malaysia There are really many many media from different agencies Just the microphones, there are 20 to 30 pieces already Lao Da has talked a lot just now about his interaction with the kids in Mongolia heard that: As their group was too big (had 20 something people) and also with the camera, so the kids didn't dare to get close to them That was the one thing that he feels pity about this trip The reporters asked Lao Da to speak a Mongolian phrase Lao Da said: In Mongolian, thank you is Then all the people laughed 15:10 The interview is still going on, as the reporters have asked a lot of questions Yoa can't remember much only remembers a reporter asking him about being a doctor in The Hospital something like that, blablaLao Da answered: I don't have the ability to be a doctor but I can help others with other means. the reporter asked again: Not able to be a doctor, but you can be a father Have you thought about when do you want to be a father? Lao Da said: I will be a father when the time comes still interviewing lot of questions Reporters asked about the injuries on his face)[ Lao Da said: The frostbite and sunburn are ok, just that it didn't look neat yesterday, that's why he wore the mask. Now he has put on the ointment prescribed by the doctor and it should be better after the dead skin comes off Then the reporters also asked him what he gave to the kids in Mongolia Lao Da was extremely adorable. He said, "Other than the underwear that I couldn't take off, I have given away everything. Then he explained, "Just kidding! Just gave them something like candies, cleaning detergent, etc..." 15:35 the press conference was over Lao Da kept emphasizing that his frostbite and sunburn are not serious tHe hopes that the media won't just focus on thatu For this trip to Mongolia, Lao Da always feels that he needs to bring happiness to the kids in Mongolia that's why he mentioned about playing magic and singing for the kids However, wherever he went in Mongolia, the media kept on pushing him to ask the kids questions about their hardships Lao Da tried to ask, but when the kids heard the questions through the translator he can't forget the sad expression on their faces, and he felt so cruel to the kids that he couldn't allow himself to do it Although he knows that the sadder the reports, the easier to get sympathy, he wants to bring happiness to the kids, instead of reminding them about or opening their wounds. He said that he remembers when he was very poor at youth, an uncle always brought a barbequed duck when visiting his family during festivals That feeling was so warm that it left him a very deep impression. Whenever he sees that uncle, he remembers barbequed duck, and he also remembers the happiness that brought by the uncleTherefore, during this trip to Mongolia, the question asking part was the one thing he couldn't get used to and the one thing he felt very sad about. Lao Da had spent close to 10 minutes to express his feelings about this issue It shows that he really concerns about it and feels sorry for the kids.
